Clutch Cargo Lives!

Everyone growing up in the 1950's and 60's would come home after school to their favorite local kiddie show host, who invariably served up a potpourri of Popeye cartoons, Three Stooges vignettes, and often a cartoon serial called Clutch Cargo. What made Clutch Cargo so much fun was that even kids knew that there was something amiss in the production value of the show. First of all, it added new dimensions to the word limited in the phrase limited animation. Secondly, instead of drawing a few extra pictures, the producers superimposed actual lips onto the characters to save money. Now, 50 years later, the shows remain kitschy and just as much fun to revisit. We had a low threshold level back then for buying into kids entertainment- trying something like that now would be unthinkable. But one thing is for sure, Clutch Cargo is now an icon.....
